AES67 Interoperability Between P-AVN-X Devices and Q-SYS Core

Overview

P-AVN devices support AES67 audio transport as part of their IPMX-compliant media networking implementation. Interoperability with Q-SYS Core platforms is currently supported through the ST 2110-30 Receiver/Transmitter module available within Q-SYS.

At this time, native AES67 interoperability using the standard Q-SYS AES67 implementation has not been validated. Successful interoperability has been achieved using the SMPTE ST 2110-30 audio stream workflow in Q-SYS.

Requirements

  • P-AVN device configured for AES67 audio transmission and/or reception
  • Q-SYS Core with:
    • ST 2110-30 Receiver and/or Transmitter components deployed in the design
  • Layer 2/3 network supporting:
    • Multicast traffic
    • PTP timing distribution
    • Appropriate QoS settings for media traffic

Configuration Summary

1. Configure the P-AVN Device

  1. Enable AES67 streaming on the P-AVN device.
  2. Verify the device is synchronized to the network PTP domain.
  3. Note the generated SDP information or multicast stream parameters:
    • Multicast IP address
    • Port number
    • Sample rate
    • Channel count
    • Codec (typically PCM)

2. Configure Q-SYS

  1. Open the Q-SYS Designer project.
  2. Add an ST 2110-30 Receiver component for audio received from the P-AVN device.
  3. Import the SDP file or manually configure the stream parameters to match the AES67 stream generated by the P-AVN device.
  4. Confirm the stream locks and audio is present within the Q-SYS design.

For audio transmission from Q-SYS to P-AVN:

  1. Add an ST 2110-30 Transmitter component.
  2. Configure:
    • Sample rate to match the P-AVN receiver requirements.
    • Channel count as required.
    • PTP synchronization enabled.
  3. Export or provide the SDP information to configure the P-AVN receiver.

Timing Considerations

Both platforms must share a common PTP timing source. Loss of synchronization may result in:

  • Audio dropouts
  • Stream lock failures
  • Increased latency or jitter

Verify that all devices are participating in the same PTP domain and that network infrastructure supports IEEE 1588 traffic.

Validation

Successful interoperability has been validated using:

  • P-AVN AES67 streams
  • Q-SYS ST 2110-30 Receiver and Transmitter components
  • Common PTP timing source
  • Matching sample rate and channel configuration

Known Limitation

Current Q-SYS interoperability with P-AVN devices requires the use of the ST 2110-30 module. Standard AES67 workflows within Q-SYS have not been validated for interoperability with P-AVN devices at this time.

In certain cases there's a firmware inconsistency between Q-SYS and our 1.4.2 firmware, please reach out to our support team to receive the Beta Release that contains the fix for this.

Troubleshooting

SymptomPossible Cause
No audio receivedSDP parameters do not match stream configuration
Stream will not lockPTP synchronization issue
Audio dropoutsNetwork congestion, QoS, or PTP instability
Stream visible but silentSample rate or channel mapping mismatch

Additional Notes

Because P-AVN devices are IPMX-certified, they utilize standards-based AES67/ST 2110 audio transport. Using the Q-SYS ST 2110-30 module provides the most reliable interoperability path and aligns with the underlying transport standards used by both platforms.
